Shipping Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials
The United States federal government and/or international regulations require dangerous goods shippers to have job-specific dangerous goods training before tendering a dangerous goods shipment to FedEx Express or any air carrier. Shippers are solely responsible for the correct preparation of dangerous goods for transportation by air.
The regulations require that:
- Each person involved in the shipping and/or handling of dangerous goods must be trained.
- Recurrent training must occur every two years. Exception: In the U.S., the Department of Transportation (DOT), as competent authority, allows training for shippers every three years.
- An enforcement agency may review your training records at any time.
Current DG Seminar Offering
To meet these government training regulations, FedEx Express and IATA are working together to offer several unique training seminars for shippers: a 3-Day Dangerous Goods Initial Training, a 1-Day Dangerous Goods "Recurrent" Seminar, and several new virtual seminars. FedEx Express also offers customized 1-day Radioactive Materials Seminar for shippers of those commodities.
Attendees will receive the current version of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation Book (a $309 retail cost), the FedEx Express seminar workbook and the joint FedEx/IATA Dangerous Goods Certificate upon successful completion of the seminar exam.
Upon successful completion of the seminar and exam, attendees will have been given the knowledge and taught the skills needed to safely ship dangerous goods via air using FedEx Express or any carrier.
